Thank You for Your Support
Thank you for helping Guardian Partners with our goal of preventing abuse throughout Oregon. It is estimated that there are roughly 15,000 Guardianship cases in the State of Oregon. That means 15,000 instances where one person has the power to make financial, health care, and quality of life decisions for another person as their Guardian. Guardians are persons appointed by the Court to care for and make medical and placement decisions on behalf of an individual, known as the Protected Person, who is unable to make those decisions for themselves. Protected Persons are elders, persons experiencing disabilities, and minors needing Court-appointed support.
Until the launch of Guardian Partners, there was little oversight of these cases. Guardian Partners is a volunteer-based initiative to meet a growing need in the elder and disabled adult community. Our goal is to not only discover and prevent abuse, but also to teach Guardians how to be effective to ensure those who are incapacitated are treated with the utmost care. These efforts prevent abuse and increase quality of life for elder adults, persons experiencing disabilities, and children under Guardianship care. We strive to be a national leader regarding issues of Guardianship by implementing effective programs that ensure every Guardian in Oregon has the resources, education, and oversight needed to be an effective caretaker.
We collected data in 2019 and found that of the 100 cases we monitored, 24% required intervention. Our case interventions range from providing Guardians with resources regarding respite care to calling for an ambulance to transport a neglected protected person to the hospital.
To help us build capacity in Oregon, we hope you will make a gift so that we may deliver our quality programming to under-served parts of Oregon.
